Australian Fusion Energy Research gets prominent coverage from ANSTO/ANU MoU signing
2 months ago
Australian Fusion Energy Research received prominent coverage in reports of the signing of an MoU of collaboration between ANSTO and ANU.
Yesterday, Senator Kim Carr witnessed the MoU signing by Prof. Ian Chubb, ANU Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Adi Paterson, CEO ANSTO. All three speakers agreed that it was highly desirable in a country of Australia's size that two national research institutes should collaborate closely to be most effective.
During his speech, Minister Kerr announced that the National Plasma Fusion Facility will receive $7M to fund infrastructure upgrades.
He remained neutral on the issue of nuclear power in general: "We are agnostic about particular fields of research that our scholars pursue."
Afterwards, the parties and witness to the MoU began a tour of selected facilities by visiting the H-1 National Plasma Fusion Research Facility, where Senator Carr fired a plasma pulse (photo, photo). The most popular picture with the press was taken when the VIP party broke away from the planned route to have a closer look at the facility equipment, in particular a large but precise current switching regulator assembly, originally an Engineering Master's project of Tony Lin, and brought to its present stage by Senior Technical Officer John Wach.
